GEOGRAPHY

Fiji is commonly referred to as paradise across the world, with its 322 islands ideally located in the tropics. The two major islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, where almost 80% of the population reside. Most of these islands are unspoiled since only about a hundred are inhibited by humans. The capital is Suva, which is located in the South East section of Viti Levu. Nadi is the main gateway to Fiji.

WEATHER

Fiji’s climate is pleasantly tropical. It is cool and dry from May to October whereas humid from November to April. Hurricanes may occur in the humid period but are not considered as threats since they only last a day or two. The average temperature is 23ºC. In general, there are only slight seasonal temperature variations throughout the year.

POPULATION

Fiji has approximately 800,000 people. It is multi-racial with a remarkable combination of Fijians, Indians, Chinese, European and many other nationalities. The mesmerising combination of its friendly people along with their diverse cultures makes an experience in Fiji truly magical.

TRAVELING TO FIJI

Fiji has two international airports in Nadi and Nausori. The Nadi airport is the larger one and most visitors arrive there. Air Pacific is Fiji’s International airline.

It is easy and inexpensive to travel within Fiji. There are various forms of transportation such as buses, taxis, boats, ferries and planes. Rental cars are also available.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES

Fiji has a wide range of restaurants including Fijian, Chinese, Indian and European food. Prices differ according to taste. Food is generally inexpensive but deluxe meals are also available. Supermarkets and markets are easily accessible. They feature a selection of local and imported fruits and vegetables along with fresh and frozen meat.

CURRENCY AND BANKING

The Fijian dollar is used throughout Fiji. Travelers’ checks and credit cards are also accepted at banks, most duty-free shops and supermarkets. Banks in Fiji include Bank of Baroda, Bank of Hawaii, Colonial Bank, ANZ Bank, Westpac Bank etc.
